The Heart of Worship

John 4:19-24 KJV

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Devotional

In our passage today, Jesus teaches the Samaritan woman about true worship. He emphasizes that God is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. This echoes the message from Isaiah 58 about fasting - it's not about the outward form, but the inward reality. As you continue your fast, focus on cultivating a heart of genuine worship. Are there areas in your life where you've been going through religious motions without truly engaging your heart?
Take time today to simply be in God's presence, offering Him sincere praise and adoration. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you worship in a way that transcends ritual and touches the very heart of God.
