Overcoming the Adversary

Reading
1 Peter 5:8-11
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Devotional
Peter's warning about our adversary, the devil, prowling like a roaring lion, is a sobering reminder of the spiritual battles we face. Yet, this passage doesn't leave us in fear, but equips us with the knowledge of how to stand firm. We're called to be alert, of sober mind, and to resist the enemy, standing firm in the faith. Most importantly, we're reminded that we don't face these battles alone. After we have suffered a little while, God himself will restore us and make us strong, firm and steadfast. Today, identify areas where you feel vulnerable to spiritual attack. Pray for God's strength and protection in these areas. Remember, greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Stand firm in your faith, knowing that God is your ultimate protector and the giver of eternal glory in Christ.
