The Response of Repentance
Reading
Acts 2:37-41
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Luke 15:17-24
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

When the people heard Peter's message, they were "pierced in their hearts" and asked, "What shall we do?" True conviction leads to action. Repentance is not merely feeling sorry—it's turning away from sin and turning toward God. It's a lifestyle posture, not a one-time event. Like the prodigal son who came to his senses and returned home, repentance means acknowledging you've been going the wrong direction and making a deliberate turn. God's plan includes forgiveness for every sin, no matter how large the balance on your account. But forgiveness must be applied through your response. Today, identify areas where you need to turn away from old patterns. Repentance is not punishment—it's the pathway to freedom and restored relationship with your Father.
